"Bush's push on immigration tests his base," according to the New York Times. In a parenthetical update on National Review's challenge to the Wall Street Journal for a moderated debate on the proposed immigration bill, the Times reports that Journal editor Paul Gigot has rejected the NR challenge:

The Journal editorial page editor, Paul Gigot, dismissed the challenge, saying National Review writers had not accepted offers to appear on The Journal’s program on Fox to discuss the matter.
If that is in fact Gigot's reason for rejecting NR's challenge, it is an extraordinarily lame excuse.

JOHN adds: To fully appreciate how lame it is for the Journal's editors to decline National Review's challenge, you have to see the video of the WSJ's editorial board discussing the immigration issue, accusing "the right," specifically National Review, of being irrational and "foaming at the mouth," and implicitly suggesting that NR's editors and other opponents of illegal immigration are racists. Here it is:

This comes from Power Line Video, where videos of the Journal's editorial board meetings are regularly posted, along with lots of other material, in the Dow Jones section. We played audio from this board meeting on our radio show yesterday.
