Bush In Iraq

President Bush made a surprise stop in Iraq, en route to an economic summit in Australia. Along with Secretary of Defense Bob Gates and others, he met with American troops and Iraqi officials in Anbar province. The location was intended to be symbolic, as Anbar has been the site of considerable progress during the “surge” and the administration believes that improvement continues at the local level, despite political roadblocks in Baghdad. A Marine Cobra pilot told Bush that morale is “very high,” despite long rotations in Iraq. This photo is of Bush with a Marine:
