Human nature is always and everywhere the same, as Lincoln observed and as this story reminds us:
Tehran’s police chief, Reza Zarei, has been arrested after he was found nude in a local brothel with six naked prostitutes, according to report on the Iranian Farda News.
Following the raid, Zarei stepped down from his post as police chief. The news of his arrest however was not reported by any official Iranian news agency.
Before he was arrested, Zarei was in charge of the programme for the ‘moralisation of the city’.
Now, that’s what I call hypocrisy!
One difference between our society and Iran’s is that Eliot Spitzer’s “Kristen” is likely to become a multimillionaire. The New York Times has revealed her real name; her MySpace page has been mined for photos, like this one:
The low-hanging fruit would be a nude photo shoot, for which she would be paid a lot of money, but if she is smart she’ll think bigger. She is said to be an aspiring singer, so now she can probably get a record deal and a night club career. Or she can perhaps break into films if she is so inclined. But that’s not all: my guess is that she will be interviewed by journalists, and quoted as though she were a serious social critic.
I’m guessing that this will turn into one more weird episode in a culture in which celebrity trumps pretty much everything else.
