Last week, the House Democrats passed (over opposition from all House Republicans and 12 Democratic dissenters) a FISA reform bill that does not include telecom immunity. In an age in which loyalties can be fickle, I suppose one could view with admiration the Democrats’ tenacious support for the plaintiffs’ lawyers’ lobby. But it isn’t entirely clear what the Dems’ point is, since their version will never get past the Senate, let alone President Bush. Maybe they’re just trying to buy time.
