The section 8 crime wave

The Reagan-era tax reductions ushered in an era of economic growth and prosperity that moved millions of Americans from the bottom rungs of income earners into the middle class and beyond. Thus do conservative economic policies redistribute income. John Hinderaker and I took a crack at telling the story in our 1995 paper “The truth about income inequality.”

Liberals have proved themselves failures in redistributing income to the poor. They have, however, proved themselves somewhat more adept at redistributing poor people. In doing so, they have exported serious crime to previously blissful communities. For an astounding report, see Hanna Rosin’s Atlantic article “American murder mystery.”
