The trouble with restraint

The Israeli government has stood by and allowed the Gaza Strip to become an armed fortress. The government understandably hesitates to undertake the hazardous operation that is necessary to subdue Hamas in the Gaza Strip. But the day of reckoning is inevitable — it will come either at a time of Israel’s choosing, or Iran’s. Delay only increases the costs to Israel, as Jonathan Spyer forcefully argues in “Analysis: Fortress Gaza.”
