Hamdan convicted

Salim Hamdan, Osama bin Laden’s former driver, is guilty of “supporting terrorism,” a military tribunal has found. Bin Laden’s driver supported terrorism? “There’s a scoop,” as Howard Cosell used to say.

The tribunal, which deliberated for eight hours, found Hamdan not guilty of the conspriacy charge. Fortunately, the conviction for supporting terrorism apparently is sufficient to support up to a life sentence. The sentencing phase will begin later today.

However, Hamdan can still appeal to federal district court. There, he may find a sympathetic ear in the form of liberal judge James Robertson.
