Is the Press Helping Obama?

They’re certainly trying. But in this survey, 48 percent of respondents say they are “hearing too much about the Democratic candidate.” Conversely, nearly 40 percent say they are hearing too little about John McCain. That’s consistent, I think, with the backlash we are seeing in the poll data generally.

Maybe this year, at least, the press will play the role of Mephistopheles, who wills evil but does good.
