Murder In Beijing

In Beijing, an assailant attacked an American couple and their Chinese tour guide with a knife. The husband was killed and his wife suffered life-threatening injuries. The assailant then committed suicide by jumping off the tower where the attack occurred.

It turns out that the murdered American was a Minnesotan named Todd Bachman. He was the CEO of Bachman’s, a well-known local business, and lived one town away from me in the Minneapolis suburbs.

We noted here that radical Chinese Muslims have threatened to carry out terrorist acts during the Olympics. So far, there is no word on the attacker’s motives. Probably he was deranged, but the mostly-unspoken question is whether this attack might be the first sign of Islamic terrorism.
