Things he said today (and yesterday)

Paul McCartney is scheduled to play Tel Aviv on September 25, so of course he has been subject to pressure encouraging him to cancel the concert. The tour date can’t be going down smoothly in Londonistan. Reuters quotes McCartney reassuring his Israeli fans that he won’t let them down:

“I was approached by different groups and political bodies who asked me not to come here. I refused. I do what I think, and I have many friends who support Israel,” McCartney said in an interview with Israel’s Yedioth Ahronoth.

The article also quotes a statement posted on McCartney’s Web site:

McCartney said in comments published on his Web site last month he looks forward to this chance to perform in Israel. “I’ve heard so many great things about Tel Aviv and Israel, but hearing is one thing and experiencing it for yourself is another,” he said.

McCartney is a stand-up guy. He organized and made a memorable appearance at the Concert for New York City at Madison Square Garden on October 20, 2001. Introducing his new song “Freedom” at the concert, McCartney said: “That’s one thing these people don’t understand. That’s worth fighting for.”
