Where the Race Stands

John McCain is in better shape than he probably dared hope going into the Republican convention (if there is one). Rasmussen’s survey came out a few minutes ago; he has Obama up by three points. Interestingly, McCain’s standing with Republicans has jumped since he named Sarah Palin his running mate. McCain is now viewed significantly more favorably by Republicans than Obama is by Democrats. That’s news, I think.

CNN has it essentially tied at 49-48 Obama. Only Gallup still has Obama with a significant lead at 48-42, but there too his convention bounce had already started shrinking as of yesterday.

Sarah Palin deserves credit for some of this, at least. Now if the Republicans would only hold a convention.
