The Junie B. Jones Campaign
I don't know who made this music video titled "Spread the Wealth Around," but it's excellent; funny but true:
I have several daughters, all of whom were fans of a fictional character named Junie B. Jones. Junie, a kindergartner and later a first grader, starred in a series of terrific books by Barbara Park. They are written in the first person, and the narrative voice--the rather scruffy Junie's--is one of the best in literature, in my opinion.
One evening a couple of years ago, my youngest daughter was reading a Junie B. Jones book and started giggling. I asked her what was so funny. She read out loud a colloquy between Junie and her grandfather. Junie was seated on a dryer as her grandfather was doing laundry. The exchange ended with this, from Junie:
I need five dollars and you have five dollars. Boom! Do the math.
"Boom! Do the math" became a common refrain in our household. It was funny coming from a six-year-old. Not so funny as the basis for a Presidential campaign.
