A foggy election

Israel held its election today, but it will probably be a while before we know who “won.” Exit polls indicated that Kadima has won more parliamentary mandates than Likud, by a margin of 30 to 28. However, the two major “right-wing” parties, Likud and Israel Beiteinu, look like they will win the same number of mandates as Kadima and Labor combined. And the so-called right-wing bloc as a whole appears to have gained six to eight more mandates than the so-called left-wing bloc. This suggests that Likud’s Benjamin Netanyahu will find it easier to form a coalition government than will Kadima’s Tzipi Livni.

Naturally, both Kadima and Likud are claiming victory.
