Word in Washington is that Nancy Pelosi is hunting around for members to join her on a delegation to the Inter-Parlilamentary Union, and to take the United States into it. Her reason for this is pretty clear: the IPU is (in a word) a relentless advocate of set-aside seats and other preferential policies for women in national parliaments.
But as Ted Bromund points out, the IPU is in reality a thoroughly nasty piece of work — like Durban, except it never ends. As Bromund points out, North Korea, Venezuela and Zimbabwe are members in good standing of the IPU. Virtually no one in the United States, however, has heard of the IPU. Bromund’s column means to fix that problem and to make clear why the United States should not join the IPU.
