Is Diane Wood the front-runner?

I’ve suspected that Judge Diane Wood is the front-runner for nomination to fill Justice Souter’s spot on the Supreme Court. I hold this view mainly because, as I wrote here, the left views Judge Wood as having demonstrated in a judicial setting that she has the intellectual “heft” necessary to do battle with the conservative heavyweights on the Court.

Now Jan Crawford Greenburg writes that Judge Wood has come to Washington under circumstances that suggest she will be interviewed by President Obama.

In my view, these sorts of reports are just as apt to mislead as to illuminate, even when provided by a good correspondent like Greenburg. But all things considered, it would not be unreasonable to conclude that Wood is, indeed, the front-runner at this moment.
