Sliding Downhill

Barack Obama’s unpopular support for government medicine continues to bleed support away from his administration. While polls show the usual day-to-day fluctuations, the trend is still downward. In today’s Rasmussen survey Obama’s “approval index” is -9, and his overall approval/disapproval score is now negative by five points, 47-52 percent, among likely voters. I think that’s his worst overall result so far.
Before long, Rahm Emanuel and David Axelrod are going to warn Obama that he needs to back off and settle for a token health care “victory” to stop the bleeding. Then we’ll find out whether Obama’s pledge to be a one-term President rather than abandon his drive for government-controlled medicine is sincere.
UPDATE: Wow, that was quick: White House appears ready to drop “public option.”
