Who’s Dumber, Mike Tyson or Anita Dunn?

White House communications director Anita Dunn, a Democratic Party attack dog, says that Mao Tse-Tung is one of her “favorite political philosophers” and one of the “two people that I turn to most:”

Like so much that we’re seeing from the Obama administration, this reveals Dunn as a woman who simply isn’t very bright. Either she knows that Mao was the greatest mass murderer in history or she doesn’t: either way, her comment, which was not off the cuff but part of a prepared speech, was incredibly stupid.
It’s been a long time since college students were waving little red books. Nowadays, hardly anyone is foolish enough to speak well of the evil tyrant. It occurred to me, though, that there is at least one American who publicly admires Mao. That is, heavyweight boxer Mike Tyson. He sports a Mao tattoo:

What’s funny about this is that boxing fans have long ridiculed Tyson’s Mao tattoo as more evidence that the boxer, who was a mugger before he was a teenager and famously tried to bite off Evander Holyfield’s ear, is an idiot. Even those who stick up for Tyson’s intelligence (like my son, an avid boxing fan) admit that his Mao tattoo is evidence to the contrary, as is his blowing untold millions and driving himself into bankruptcy through astonishingly profligate spending.
Still, if I ask the question: who is dumber, Mike Tyson or Anita Dunn, I have to say the answer is Anita Dunn. Tyson grew up alone on the streets of New York and was incarcerated, if I remember correctly, at age 14. One can understand how he might think, with Mao, that all power grows out of the barrel of a gun. But Anita Dunn, a pampered and senior White House official, has no such excuse. She is simply a fool and, if she had any sense of dignity, would resign.
