How to Report Poll Data

Sometimes, you just have to laugh. This Minneapolis Star Tribune, for decades a pro-abortion stalwart, headlines: “Nearly half of Minnesotans favor abortion rights, survey says.”

Nearly half of Minnesotans say that abortion should be a women’s personal choice, according to a survey by St. Cloud State University.
The phone survey of 550 randomly chosen adults found that 46 percent say women should have the right to have an abortion, with 10 percent saying it should never be allowed.

More statistical breakdowns follow, but entirely unmentioned are the 44 percent unaccounted for in the tally above. A reader with elementary mathematics skills can figure out that in Minnesota, one of the country’s more liberal states, 54 percent of those who answer the telephone think that abortions should be legal either never or under specified conditions, while a minority of 46 percent favor abortion on demand.
Abortion has never been our issue, but perhaps more than any other topic it generates a nearly hysterical bias in the liberal media.
