Adios, Olbermann?

Reports are circulating that Keith Olbermann’s “Countdown” show on MSNBC could be nearing the end of its run. Ratings are in free-fall, dropping 44% since last year’s election. MSNBC executives say Olbermann’s decline reflects the fact that “there are times when politics does great, and there are times when it doesn’t.”
Of course, politics is doing great at Fox. It’s better, from a media standpoint, to be out than in; Olbermann can’t rage against Barack Obama the way he did against George Bush. One would hope that it’s also better not to be a hysterical oaf, and that Olbermann is finally paying a price for the over-the-top vitriol he spouts nightly on MSNBC.
