Today’s most significant leak, from Obama administration officials involved in drafting of the new National Security Strategy document, indicates that the administration will declare an end to the war against radical Islam:
President Barack Obama’s advisers will remove religious terms such as “Islamic extremism” from the central document outlining the U.S. national security strategy and will use the rewritten document to emphasize that the United States does not view Muslim nations through the lens of terror, counterterrorism officials said.
The change is a significant shift in the National Security Strategy, a document that previously outlined the Bush Doctrine of preventative [sic] war and currently states: “The struggle against militant Islamic radicalism is the great ideological conflict of the early years of the 21st century.” …
The revisions are part of a larger effort about which the White House talks openly, one that seeks to change not just how the United States talks to Muslim nations, but also what it talks to them about, from health care and science to business startups and education.
Great: let’s inflict Obamacare on the Middle East. This policy shift sums up the Obama administration perfectly. Obama basically doesn’t care about foreign policy, and is focused on transforming the U.S. into a different, government-dominated country. So it is only natural that domestic policy is exported into foreign policy, and we get references to health care rather than national security.
Obama intends to end the war on terror that President Bush declared after September 11. This is a return to business as usual, wishful thinking as the basis for foreign policy. It is, above all, an effort to forget the hijacked airplanes that crashed into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. For the Left, radical Muslims’ attacks on the U.S. and its interests, going back thirty years, have never been anything but a distraction. Now the liberals intend to close their eyes and wish that Islamic terrorism will go away. We’ll see how that works out.
