I have been meaning to write a wrap-up in our miniseries on the Democratic fabrication captured in the March 20 McClatchy headline: “Tea party protesters scream ‘nigger’ at black congressmen.” Andrew Breitbart has beaten me to the punch with his review of the evidence in “No more beer summits: Tea Party ‘N’ word incident didn’t happen, and the Congressional Black Caucus owes America an apology.” Andrew has also posted a letter to chairman Barbara Lee of the CBC from the chairman of the Memphis Tea Party demanding an apology.
Andrew puts his finger on the gravamen here: “Now this story is much more important than the accusation of fifteen racists among the thousands of protesters that day. This is now about the accusers.” A funny thing has happened to the prominent accusers (Reps. Andre Carson, Emanuel Cleaver, John Lewis and James Clyburn) of the Obamacare protesters; these loquacious men have done something completely out of character. They have clammed up.
To Andrew’s post and the excellent video above included in the post, I would add the eyewitness testimony of reader Greg Farrell. Farrell has in addition sent us a set of photographs documenting his placement at the foot of the Cannon Building where the incident is alleged to have occurred. Consistent with the video above, he says it didn’t happen.
As we have discussed in previous installments, two journalists have reviewed the evidence supporting the incident. The Washington Post’s ombudsman essentially found no evidence to support the incident in his review. AP reporter Jesse Washington cited Rep. Heath Shuler in support of the incident, but the AP has withdrawn this element of Washington’s review. Breitbart addresses the remainder of Washington’s evidence in his post and in the video above.
If the incident had occurred as alleged, there would be audio, video or eyewitness evidence supporting it beyond the congressmen’s say-so. There is none, because it didn’t happen.
This alleged incident, fabricated by congressmen, including one of the Democratic congressional leaders, is a scandal hiding in plain sight. Surely someone who reports on politics for a living will not want to leave it to Breitbart to blow the whistle on it.
