A shout out to Dr. Mark White

Jay Applebaum is one of my oldest and best friends, and a person from whom I have learned a lot over the years. I haven’t heard from him in a while, so I was delighted to see his name pop up on our caller id this afternoon. He was calling from Bloomington, Indiana, where his youngest son is in school at Indiana University.
Jay joined the Bloomington Country Club so he could golf with his son when he visits him at school. They are both excellent golfers; Jay had just finished a round in a club tournament in which he played with his son opposite a pair including Dr. Mark White, an emergency room physician in Bloomington.
During the round Jay asked Dr. White if he’d ever been to Minneapolis. Dr. White said that he hadn’t, but that there were two guys he really wanted to meet there: John Hinderaker and me. (He also wants to meet Paul Mirengoff on his beat in Washington.) Dr. White said that he reads Power Line every day and that his wife sometimes thinks he loves us more than her. (I suspect that Jay might have been embellishing the last point.)
I told Jay that I wanted to give a shout out to Dr. White. We are grateful for the loyalty of readers like Dr. White and hearing from them every once in a while, even circuitously, helps keep us on the job.
