Minnesota is a funny place. Most people don’t place us at the center of the universe, but many Minnesotans are blissfully unaware of the fact. Remember the headline (maybe apocryphal) in a British newspaper that went something like, “Fog in Channel, Continent Cut Off”? This analogous headline in the Minneapolis Star Tribune, over a column by local institution Sid Hartman, made me laugh out loud: “Wooden missed chance to coach at U.”
That’s right: John Wooden might have really been somebody, but he missed his chance to coach at the University of Minnesota! Apparently he never got over it….
