John Podhoretz salutes the “peerless satirical brilliance” of Iowahawk’s “The two randy vicars.” Iowahawk’s post is, as John says, a picaresque tale in the eighteenth century style featuring the Rev. John St. Edwards and the Reverend Albert des Gores II.
Iowahawk credits the post to Baudy Tales for the Indifcreet Gentleman (ca. 1710) by Anonymous. In spirit it shares something in common with John Barth’s classic tale of Ebeneezer Cooke, The Sot-Weed Factor.
