No Demagoguery Allowed!

President Obama warns against demagoguing illegal immigration:

“We want to work with Arizona. I understand the frustration of people in Arizona. But what we can’t do is demagogue the issue,” Obama said in an interview with CBS, according to excerpts released by the network.

What that means, of course, is that the Democrats’ position on the issue is unpopular. Scott Rasmussen finds that 59% of American voters support Arizona’s immigration law, while 53% trust the states more than the federal government to enforce immigration laws. Whenever the Democrats’ position on an issue is brutally unpopular, they try to make the issue out of bounds for political debate. We’re still waiting for the Dems to apply the “no demagoguery” rule to, say, Social Security.
Meanwhile, at an Arizona Diamondbacks game, two men ran onto the field carrying Mexican flags to protest Arizona’s so-far-futile attempt to uphold the rule of law:

This strikes me as remarkably stupid. The more that protesters against Arizona use the Mexican flag as their symbol, the larger the majority who are opposed to illegal immigration will grow.
