Miss him yet?

Byron York reports that supporters of the Ground Zero mosque, distressed by President Obama’s waffling on the issue, are calling on former President George W. Bush to announce his support for the project. Those who seek aid and comfort from Bush include Maureen Dowd, Eugene Robinson, and Peter Beinart.
According to Byron, the idea behind the call is that Bush understands better than Obama the connection between the war on terror and the larger question of America’s relationship with Islam. Or perhaps these Ground Zero mosque supporters want to take advantage of the fact that Bush is known to understand better than Obama the seriousness of the war on terror, and thus would be a more credible voice on behalf of the mosque.
If I were Bush, I’d pass on the invitation of Dowd, Robinson, and Beinart. “Miss me yet” t-shirts reportedly are outselling pro-Obama t-shirts this summer on Martha’s Vineyard. Bush will be less missed if he throws in with those who want to see a mosque, the project of an imam who blamed America (including President Bush) for 9/11, constructed on hallowed ground.
