Fidel Castro’s purported abandonment of Communism (“the Cuban model”) in the interview with Jeffrey Goldberg made a lot of news. Castro’s subsequent claim that Goldberg misunderstood him has not grabbed anywhere near as much attention. Reuters reports Castro’s reaffirmation of his beliefs in “Castro: I meant that “capitalist system’ doesn’t work.”
In his report on the interview Goldberg observed: “This struck me as the mother of all Emily Litella moments. Did the leader of the Revolution just say, in essence, ‘Never mind’?” I guess you can say that twice over.
