Some Things Never Change

It has been obvious for some years that antiwar icon Cindy Sheehan is a disgrace, but it took this performance to discredit her with some observers. “I am a 9/11 truther,” she says. “I do believe it was an inside job. … I’m sure Dick Cheney had something to do with it”:

The charitable interpretation is that Sheehan is a nut. The less charitable interpretation is that she takes her political cues (and always has) from the likes of Hugo Chavez. For some liberals, this latest performance put Sheehan beyond the pale. From our perspective, she has been there for a long time. Perhaps what has really changed is that she is now accusing the Obama administration, rather than the Bush administration, of “war crimes.”
It has been a while since we have shown a funeral in Gaza. This photo was taken yesterday; the AP’s caption reads:

Palestinian mourners carry the body of Palestinian militant, Alaa Abu Z’beida, out of the family house during his funeral in Al Bureij refugee camp, central Gaza Strip, Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2010. Alaa Abu Z’beida and two other Palestinian militant were killed late Monday in a clash with Israeli soldiers. The Israelis said their forces fired at militants near the border of central Gaza as they were about to launch rockets at Israel. A small, al-Qaida-inspired group claimed responsibility on Tuesday.

A society in which “al Qaeda-inspired” would-be terrorists are mourned as heroes–that is, rather obviously, the impediment to peace in Gaza and the West Bank. Meanwhile, world leaders wring their hands over the prospect that Jews might build houses. Some things, as I said, never seem to change.
