Pamela Speaks

Today’s New York Times has a lengthy and not entirely unflattering profile of Pamela Geller of Atlas Shrugs. While the paper describes Pamela’s rhetoric as “venomous,” her main offense seems to be that she is a citizen activist:

Operating largely outside traditional Washington power centers — and, for better or worse, without traditional academic, public-policy or journalism credentials — Ms. Geller, with a coterie of allies, has helped set the tone and shape the narrative for a divisive national debate over Park51[the Ground Zero Mosque] …

The Times’s account relies in part on sources like Media Matters and Charles Johnson, but is leavened by an interview with one of Pamela’s sisters, who says, “What my sister really wants is for everything to get back to normal in America.”
I didn’t think the profile was particularly unsympathetic, considering the source, but Pamela herself is outraged by it:

As expected, the New York Times did an extraordinarily nasty and fallacious piece on me. It is full of distortions, inaccuracies and lies from beginning to end.

She goes on to cite chapter and verse on those “distortions, inaccuracies and lies.” You can read excerpts from Pamela’s interview with the Times here.
