What “No Labels” Is All About

We have written about the “no labels” movement that was recently started by David Frum and William Galston. The idea seems pretty silly, but you can imagine that it has a constituency. I think this AP story provides a clue: “Elected officials start ‘No Labels’ group in NY.”
Sure: if you are an office-holder, there is much to be said for suppressing harsh criticism. The Democrats pumped out a steady stream of assassination fantasies when George W. Bush was President, but once they took control of the White House, as well as Congress, they suddenly started advocating civility. Great; we are models of civility. But that isn’t going to stop us from saying that Bernie Sanders is a socialist, and Barack Obama’s Senate voting record was to Sanders’ left.
