Spending Cuts In Perspective

House Republicans are talking about $61 billion in cuts to FY 2011 spending. (There never was a budget for FY 2011.) President Obama and Senate Democrats say that is way too much, and have proposed $6 billion in cuts. In this brief video, the Cato Institute puts $61 billion–which to most of us sounds like a large number–into the larger context of federal spending. Imagine, then, how pathetic the Democrats’ proposed cuts are: they amount to less than one-fifth of one percent of this year’s spending:
