My closest living connection to Winston Churchill is the prominent British journalist and author William Shawcross, who occasionally corresponds with us regarding his work. Mr. Shawcross’s father, Sir Hartley Shawcross, was Britain’s chief prosecutor at the Nuremberg trial and was Churchill’s attorney. Today Mr. Shawcross writes to express his pleasant surprise that the New York Times commissioned his column “Lessons from Nuremberg.” Please check it out.
John Hinderaker and I drew a different set of lessons (for trial lawyers) from Nuremberg in the essay “Lessons from the cross-examination of Hermann Goehring,” which is not a bad companion to Mr. Shawcross’s timely column.
