Next Up for the Power Line Prize

We have now announced finishers 2 through 10 in the Power Line Prize competition, and have also posted a number of excellent entries that didn’t quite make the top ten. You might think that leaves just one to go: the winner of the $100,000 grand prize. Fair enough: our plan is to unveil the winner Monday morning. At this moment, the winner does not know that he/she/it has won.

Over the weekend, starting later tonight if I can stay awake, we will be putting up some more highly-rated entries that were not far outside the top ten. We are accumulating the videos and songs that we have posted on our YouTube channel, http://www.youtube.com/thepowerlineblog. As we post more videos, songs and other entries viewable in that format, we will add them to the YouTube channel.

Our hope, of course, is that our contest will draw attention to the federal debt crisis by generating artistic contributions that go viral and are seen by millions, sort of like America Rising, which drew 3.8 million views on its Power Line archive page leading up to the 2010 election, nearly all of them via email. That kind of popularity is almost impossible to foresee, but we think that a number of our contest entries have the potential to do as well, or even better. So far, in what may be an upset, the video that is getting the most viral traffic is “Doorbell.” But there is a long way to go. It would be great if, in the end, several contest entries are viewed by millions of Americans.

So we encourage you to go through the entries we have posted so far, pick out your favorites, and do whatever you can to disseminate them. Simplest is to email them to your friends.

More to come, shortly!
