I haven’t posted much for the last few days, mostly because I have spent a lot of time working on the Power Line Prize contest. The deadline for submissions was midnight last night. As we expected, a torrent of entries came in during the last 48 hours. I don’t have an exact count on the number of entries, but they are in the hundreds. More important, many of them are high-quality. The entries include 40 to 50 videos and around 20 songs; two professional editorial cartoonists submitted cartoons, and there are a number of paintings. Then there are a large number of power points, essays and screenplays, together with several games and other miscellaneous entries. At this point, I have absolutely no idea who the winner of the contest might be. Currently, we are sorting through the entries and trying to winnow them down to a manageable number to send out to our panel of judges. That task will consume the weekend.
Selecting four prize winners from the much larger number of high-quality entries will be hard, and necessarily somewhat arbitrary. But we intend to make good use not just of the winners, but of the dozens of entries–at least–that are skillfully done and have the potential to both educate and motivate Americans on the issue of federal spending and federal debt. We intend to announce the contest winners next weekend or early the following week; we may be able to start releasing some top-notch products that didn’t win prizes before that, here on Power Line or on other friendly web sites. So stay tuned!
