For God, for country, and for…

NBC’s Anne Thompson reports on the dilemma faced by Yale senior Patrick Witt: “On Nov. 19, Yale University quarterback Patrick Witt faces a tough choice: He can lead Yale against arch rival Harvard University in New Haven, or he can interview for the Rhodes Scholarship in Atlanta.”

Which one will it be? The poet e.e. cummings satirically gave voice to the man with “one thought alone: to do and die/for god for country and for yale.” The voters in the poll posted with the text of Thompson’s story by and large urge Witt to go for the Rhodes. I’m going with the game, but I think reasonable minds can disagree. Whichever way he goes, I’m sure he will do Yale proud.
