Another nonquote from Chairman Jim

In “A nonquote from Chairman Jim” we noted that the voluble National Endowment for the Humanities Chairman Jim Leach has gone uncharacteristically silent. Asked for comment on the Illinois NEH affiliate’s offer of dinner for six with proud terrorists Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn, Leach has declined to comment. Mona Charen has now devoted a good column to the offered dinner and Leach’s theme of “civility.” Like Thomas Lindsay, she went to Chairman Jim for a comment:

The Illinois Humanities Council receives a check every year from the National Endowment for the Humanities, which is headed, at the moment, by former congressman Jim Leach. Leach is understandably chary of commenting on the IHC fundraiser (a call requesting comment went unreturned). If his boss had no trouble befriending Ayers/Dohrn, how can he express dismay?

Good point! Ms. Charen kindly adds:

[I]t’s doubtful in any case that Leach is offended. Leach, the first Republican to endorse Mr. Obama, seems to love nothing more than bloviating on politically correct topics such as how much Republicans “love war,” and the need to “contain prejudice and counter forces of hatred.” (Powerline blog is keeping a running tab.)

The running tab is found in our Quotations From Chairman Jim series. It’s a lousy job, but someone’s gotta do it.
