500 years

There must be a good (Allan) Shermanesque parody buried in Joe Biden’s tribute to the boss: “You can go back 500 years. You cannot find a more audacious plan. Never knowing for certain. We never had more than a 48 percent probability that he was there,” Biden said at a fundraiser in New Jersey.

Five hundred years, five hundred years, five hundred years, five hundred years…It takes a man with a certain touch to inspire mockery over the bin Laden operation, or Obama’s role in it. But Joe Biden’s got it!

You have to love the precision of that “48 percent probability that he was there.” I wonder who did the math on that. They must have figured either he’ll be there or he won’t. You know, it’s a 52-48 kind of a thing.

And what happened 500 years ago anyway? I think he really means is that it was the most audacious plan in human history since God created the universe.

At Politico, Tim Mak has put together a list of 10 military plans that were arguably at least as “audacious” and some perhaps more so.
