Cherokee Nation

Elizabeth Warren gives new meaning to the expression “phony liberal.” She’s a millionaire class warrior, boldly putting her mouth where her mouth is. She’s about as authentic as a cigar store Indian, and just as Indian. She listed herself as a Native American all the way up the greasy pole of legal academia, so long as it could do her some good, until she arrived at Harvard Law School.

The Boston Herald quotes Warren explaining: “I listed myself in the directory in the hopes that it might mean that I would be invited to a luncheon, a group, something that might happen with people who are like I am.” It’s a shame no one ever invited her to lunch with Ward Churchill. It would have spared her the current heartache.

Warren adds: “Being Native American has been part of my story I guess since the day I was born.” John Fund cruelly notes, however, that “she has never mentioned her Native American heritage while she has been a Senate candidate.” Has she mentioned it since she joined the faculty at Harvard?

Warren is staking her claim to bona fide Native American status on a remote ancestor, family lore and high cheekbones. But come on. Are you kidding me? We have never seen a woman whiter than Elizabeth Warren.

She brings the old Groucho Marx joke — “Who are you going to believe, me or your lying eyes” — alive for a new generation. And she brings new currency to the old Paul Revere and the Raiders song. Listen to it one more time: “I’m still part red man deep inside.”

UPDATE: William Jacobson has more if you can take it.
