Akin tells Huckabee he’s staying in race.

Rep. Todd Akin said on Mike Huckabee’s radio show that he will remain in the Missouri Senate race. That decision, if Akin adheres to it, will move the Missouri race from probable Republican pickup to probable Democratic retention, I would think.

Nonetheless, the decision is understandable from Akin’s point of view, and therefore not surprising. Republicans are asking Akin to give up a shot at the U.S. Senate for the good of the Party and of the country. Nothing I know about Akin suggests that he sees any appeal in this proposition.

Did Huckabee try to persuade Akin to quit? I hope so. It was Huckabee whose backing helped put this loose cannon in a position potentially to cost Republicans control of the Senate.
