The Ritchie ratchet, part 3

Minnesota Secretary of State Mark Ritchie — the Man from SOROS — has done himself and his office no honor with his high-handed attempt to undermine the proposed Minnesota constitutional amendments protecting traditional marriage and requiring photo identification for voting. Ritchie sought to undermine the proposed amendments’ chances of passage by toying with the ballot titles prescribed by the legislature.

Today the Minnesota Supreme Court ruled that, in doing so, Ritchie overstepped his bounds. The Court’s opinion in the two consolidated cases is posted here, with a related opinion, also released today, posted here.

To the extent that Mudville is a stand-in for elite liberal opinion in the Twin Cities, there is no joy in Mudville, for Mighty Ritchie has struck out. Now it’s the voters’ turn to speak.
