We and countless others have noted that one of Barack Obama’s more annoying qualities is his refusal ever to take responsibility for anything. But he isn’t alone; his entire party refuses to take responsibility for the fact that they control the Senate. One of the Democrats’ strategies this year is to pretend that the Republicans are in charge of the always-unpopular Congress. That strategy is reflected in this fundraising email, which ostensibly came from Bill Clinton:
The stakes couldn’t be higher in the 2012 election.
The outcome will determine the direction our country takes for the next generation.
The last thing we want is to wake up the day after the election regretting that we didn’t do enough to prevent the Republican Party from winning the White House and maintaining their grip on Congress.
Donate $3 or more today to win a Democratic majority and help President Obama achieve the change we need for America.
Let’s take this opportunity to show the full force of our grassroots strength.
I’m sure Harry Reid will be surprised to learn that he is a Republican, but it is easy to see why the Democrats want to disavow the Senate. Under their leadership, that body has achieved a new low in irresponsibility, failing to adopt a budget for more than three years, in violation of federal law. If there has been a more disgraceful performance in the history of Congress, I can’t think what it would be.
Still, you wonder: is it really possible that the Democrats to whom the party’s leaders address these fundraising please really don’t know which party controls the Senate? Sadly, I think that in many cases, the answer is Yes.
