Benghazi? What’s That?

I sometimes wonder, not just why so many people will vote for Barack Obama, but why anyone would vote for him, considering his record. There are multiple answers to that question, but one of them is: many of those who will vote for Obama have no idea what his record is.

Take the case of the terrorist attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, one of the major news stories of the last year. The attack and the Obama administration’s dishonest response to it raise serious questions about both the competence and the integrity of our president. So what do his supporters have to say in his defense? Revealing Politics went to an Obama rally at Ohio University to ask Obama voters what they think about the events in Benghazi. The results are chilling: many of them, the ones we see in the video, had no idea what the interviewer was talking about. Benghazi? What’s that?

A democratic system presumes that citizens have some idea what is going on in the world, and therefore some basis on which to express political preferences. Unfortunately, in today’s America, that assumption is all too often false.
