Black actress does the unthinkable, endorses Romney

You might think that an African-American actress could tweet her support for Mitt Romney without becoming the subject of vicious verbal abuse in response. But to think this, you would have to be oblivious to the character of the American left.

The actress in question is Stacey Dash. She tweeted an image of herself in a red swimsuit in front of the American Flag with the message, “Vote for Romney. The only choice for your future.”

One charmer, @WilliamEllisPhD; apparently a doctor and politically active Democrat in Washington D.C., re-tweeted Dash’s post, adding “kill yourself.” Another lefty tweeted, “kill yourself, you old hag.” And there was also this: “You’re an unemployed black woman endorsing Mitt Romney. You’re voting against yourself thrice, you poor beautiful idiot.”

CNN’s Piers Morgan was not amused. He invited Dash on his program and expressed his disgust with the vicious responses to her tweet.

Dash explained to Morgan that she “chose [Romney] not by the color of his skin but the content of his character.” That’s still ok, isn’t it?

Dash also revealed that Paul Ryan called her to express his gratitude for her support and to commend her for being brave. Ryan is not oblivious to the character of the American left.

Morgan asked Dash what she thought it says “about the state of the political discourse and the debate in America that one innocuous tweet from you, purely because you’re an actress and the color of your skin, sparked this kind of mayhem.” Dash responded:

I think it tells me that our, the state of our country is that we are not united. You know? We need to be united, and we all need to understand that we’re all capable of achieving the American dream. And, but that has to be something that is self-realized. And also to demonize someone for achieving the American dream is unfair.

Dash’s answer transcends her own demonization and captures much of what is wrong with the way the Democrats have waged this entire campaign. Dash seems to understand that the viciousness of the left is rooted in an envy, and indeed a hatred, that isn’t confined to the lost souls who attacked her for the tweet.
