There is always a silver lining, I guess: rather than admit that their guy performed poorly, the Democrats are using the debacle of Wednesday night’s debate to raise more millions from their supporters. Their theme is that Mitt Romney got the better of Barack Obama by “lying,” which apparently is supposed to explain why Obama couldn’t string two coherent sentences together. The “lies,” of course, go unspecified. The Democratic Party is bombarding its email list with messages like this one:
Subject: This is what happens when you lie:
John — Mitt Romney sure didn’t bargain for this:
The day after he straight-up lied to the American people, we’re less than 400 donations away from hitting 10,000 for the day. Will you help us get there?
Chip in $3 to help us hit 10,000 donations for a Democratic majority before midnight >>

And this one:
Subject: here’s the problem:
Mitt Romney bounded off the stage on Wednesday night with a wide grin from cheek to cheek, proud of himself for delivering all the ‘zingers’ his staff wrote up for him.
But here’s the problem: he just made stuff up. By one count, he misled the nation 27 times in 38 minutes! On Medicare, on Obamacare, on taxes, on Wall Street Reform, on you name it… Mitt said whatever he had to to score political points.
Will you step up to help us call out Romney and the Republicans’ lies before tonight’s ad buy deadline?
Donate $3 or whatever you can to fight Republicans’ misleading attacks and back up President Obama with a Democratic majority >>
Remember when the Romney campaign said, “we’re not going to let our campaign be dictated by fact checkers”? They weren’t kidding. Now, it’s up to us to do something about it.
Help us spread the truth about Republican attacks:

Who knows? Maybe the Democrats will be able to use Obama’s defeat to raise more millions from gullible grass roots supporters. Still, I am pretty sure they would have preferred that their candidate not do a face-plant in front of 67 million people.
