“What’s He Doing Back There?”

Vice President Joe Biden is the most weirdly inappropriate figure in modern political history. We can’t even imagine what a figure of fun he would be if he were a Republican. Fresh off his disastrous “debate” with Paul Ryan, about which hardly anyone remembers anything except that Biden made a fool of himself, he appeared onstage with Florida Senator Bill Nelson. A woman was warming up the crowd, talking about breast cancer–a serious topic, one would think. But Biden couldn’t stand to go for more than a few moments without playing the buffoon. So, growing impatient, he sidled over to Nelson, whispered something to him, and then started making goofy squatting motions to encourage the crowd to sit down. It was all so strange, what with the inevitable laughter and all, that the woman who was at the podium talking about breast cancer turned around and asked, “What’s he doing back there?” Which is a pretty good question, as relates to Joe Biden, just about any time:

Has anyone this bizarre ever played a role in our nation’s history? I can’t think who it would be.
