Annals of Government Medicine

With President Obama’s re-election, it is generally assumed that Obamacare is here to stay. Which means that pretty soon, your health care will be run incompetently, like the postal service, and with an agenda, like the EPA and the Department of Energy. Where does that lead? Britain’s National Health Service has shown the way. The NHS operates like a smoothly-oiled machine, except that every now and then–well, much of the time–things go awry. Like when they have to postpone operations because the operating room is infested with rats:

Operations at a Nottinghamshire hospital were cancelled after a rat was found in an operating theatre. …

Pest controllers were called into the hospital and as a result, about 40 operations had to be cancelled. Hospital bosses have apologised for the “inconvenience” to patients and said the hospital was now fully operational.

Well, that’s a relief. It seems as though every time you turn around the NHS is experiencing another embarrassment:

Separately at the beginning of October, it emerged almost 80 breast cancer patients were being recalled by King’s Mill Hospital after being given inaccurate test results.

About 120 women were given false negative results which meant some of them would have benefited from treatment different to what they were given.

False positives scare you, but false negatives…wow. It’s all in a days work for government medicine, coming soon to a clinic near you.
