Rehberg and Berg concede, leaving Republicans with only 45 Senators

Jon Tester retains his Senate seat, with an assist from Libertarian Party candidate Dan Cox, who in turn was assisted by Tester’s supporters. The results are:

Tester 48.7 percent
Rehberg 44.8 percent
Cox 6.5 percent.

In North Dakota, Heidi Heitkamp defeated Rick Berg by just under 3,000 votes. The breakdown is:

Heitkamp 50.5
Berg 49.5

Both Tester and Heitkamp campaigned as independent-minded moderates. In Tester’s case, that was outright fraud. He has been reliable liberal vote when it counts, and a great crony of lobbyists. I’ll be surprised if Heitkamp is much different, at least for her first five years in office.

In some rare good news on the Senate front, Republican Dean Heller appears to have survived the strong challenge of Shelley Berkley in Nevada. The tally is:

Heller 45.9
Berkley 44.7

This result makes me particularly happy because if Berkley had prevailed, I would have had to include Harry Reid in my list of “winners.”
