The Leno Indicator

I have no idea whether any quantitative analyst has attempted to correlate the frequency of late-night comic jokes and incumbent re-election rates, but if Jay Leno is any indicator, Obama in in trouble.  Noel Sheppard of NewsBusters has been tracking Leno’s barbs aimed at Obama, such as:

Hurricane Sandy has already created more jobs than Obama has.

Or, the day after Hallloween:

“Last night, I answer the door, there’s a kid lying on the porch. He’s playing dead.  I said, ‘What are you supposed to be?’ He said, ‘The economy.’ He was dressed as the economy.”

After the foreign policy debate, Leno said:

Obama’s top debate point was saying how sanctions are crippling Iran’s economy. And if anyone knows about crippling an economy it’s Obama.

Or this one about the NFL replacement ref fiasco, which takes a minute to build to a climax:

“I love how the politicians capitalize on this kind of thing.  Like the minute the replacement refs were fired, President Obama said, ‘See, sometimes losing jobs can be a good thing. It’s a good thing.’  [Audience laughter.]  A new survey out today shows how much time we waste every day in our lives. For example, we waste seven minutes in line every time we go to get coffee, 28 minutes getting through airport security, four years waiting for Obama to do something about the economy. Every year, we waste a lot. We wasted a lot of time.”

And then there was his line last summer, during the heat wave, when Leno said “It was so hot out there that Eric Holder was smuggling water pistols.”

I’m thinking Leno doesn’t want his taxes raised.

Meanwhile, speaking of total jokes, please tell me this pic was Photoshopped?
