What oft was thought

The folks at Investor’s Business Daily opine on Obama’s “rubelike gaffes” in the course of the presidential tour of Burma, Thailand and Cambodia. Analyze this. IBD catches Obama receiving the kind of contempt that he himself usually specializes in dishing out to his presumed inferiors:

On his trip to Cambodia, a country he claimed didn’t deserve a visit due to its strongman government, first lady Bun Rany greeted Obama with a traditional “sampeah” pressed-hands greeting reserved for servants, a little dig that was probably lost on him but not to Asians.

In the sampeah, “the higher the hands and the lower the bow, the more respect is shown.” Below is the ocular proof.

UPDATE: The Daily Mail takes up this story here, raising an issue regarding the meaning of the Cambodian first lady’s gesture.
