SOTU, Jeopardy style

Is it over yet? On a feels-like basis, the length of the speech was Castroite. And not just the length! (Note to self: Remember to frame your observations in the form of a question.)

Did the lady who stood in line for six hours to vote in Florida have a flashback during the speech?

Here’s a question for conservatives: How come we didn’t realize during the Clinton administration how good we had it? President Obama really is giving us a new perspective on the state of the nation, isn’t he? (There, that’s better.)

When Obama describes the “sequester” budget cuts as a looming disaster, does he expect us to forget that he is their author? Is he counting on his friends in the media to keep a secret? (Okay, foolish question.) How is it possible to take anything he says in good faith?

When Obama says we’ve already cut $2 trillion from the deficit, does that include the savings from Obamacare? Or just the savings from throwing in the towel on Afghanistan and Iraq? Let’s see, here you say, “Already, the Affordable Care Act is helping to slow the growth of health care costs….” Yes, indeed, much more to come!

When did “global warming” become “climate change”? Having grown up in Minnesota, I’ve gotten accustomed to climate change. Is there anything wrong with that?

When Obama says, “If we want to make the best products, we also have to invest in the best ideas,” doesn’t that depend on the meaning of “we”? (Damn, I can’t get Clinton out of my head.) Is “we” the United States government?

When Obama promises that his proposals aren’t going to add a penny to the deficit, what does he mean exactly? That they don’t cost anything? That they will be financed by the savings from Obamacare?

When did tax deductions become loopholes? Or are they just loopholes when taken by those earning more than $200,000? I think I missed that class in law school.

When did government spending become “investment”? Was it during the halcyon days of the Clinton administration?

Why not just imposes a 100 percent tax on the millionaires and billionaires exploiting tax loopholes and be done with it? Why the half measures? Does anybody really need more than $200,000 a year to live on?

When are we going to get serious and start talking about a wealth tax on millionaires and billionaires who are hoarding their savings? Who needs to save, when Social Security and Medicare have promised to take care of us?

Having consulted with his union friends, Obama has determined that the time is ripe for increasing the minimum wage from $7.25 to $9.00 an hour. That makes perfect sense. Hey, you can’t live on $7.00 an hour, can you? But can you live on $9.00 an hour? Why so cheap? Can’t we get serious? How about $90.00 an hour?

Okay. I’ve only skimmed the surface of the first half of this marvelous speech, but here comes my final question. Obama wants us to generate more wind power. Couldn’t he do it just by giving this speech on a monthly basis?
